Watching God at work through Arizona Southern Baptists.
The Islands Project
Will You Come To The Islands? The Arizona Southern Baptist Convention has entered a five-year missions partnership with Baptists in the Virgin Islands.
Churches can partner with the 16 Southern Baptist congregations on St. Croix, St. Thomas, and St. John islands. Missions opportunities on the islands will include:
- sports clinics
- income tax seminars
- block parties
- Vacation Bible School
- leadership training
- pastors/wives retreats
- and more.
In our efforts to provide the bible colleges and sports evangelism requested by the pastors in the USVI, we have all but 3 locations with mainland churches/associations working to provide partners to meet these requests. We can give thanks that 80% of these needs now have partners. We should be praying that these partnering churches/associations will be able to find an adequate number of mission volunteers to meet these needs.
In order to complete the remaining 20% of the bible colleges and sports evangelism projects we need 3 more partnering groups. Would you join me in praying that God would call, and that ASBC believers would respond to the call, for these workers? It is certainly possible that God may provide these teams from individuals whose churches and associations are not able to provide complete teams. If your church / association is not able to partner with a church in the USVI at this time and you feel God is calling you to this area of missions, please contact the state office and we will begin putting teams together. We are very close to the finish line; let's pray that Arizona Southern Baptists will be able to run this race with excellence.
Will you also pray for the training seminars that have been requested? During 2009 we have been requested to provide staff for:
-- Children's workers training
-- Youth workers training
-- Sunday school organization and promotion
-- Evangelism training
-- Deacon training
We have very qualified persons who are willing to lead these seminars and they are now working to find the funding necessary to bring these areas of training to the church in the USVI.
We also ask that you would be praying for an island-wide crusade scheduled for early November 2009. There are many logistical needs such as a venue, sound system, counselor training and music. Pray that God would even now be preparing hearts all across the Islands to hear and receive the good news about Jesus.
Please pray for the USVI island of St. John. There is no Southern Baptist work of any sort on this island. Pray that God would begin to open doors for work to begin on St. John. Please pray that this initial work in the USVI would be done with excellence so that the Islands Project will provide a firm foundation for the sharing of the gospel all across the Caribbean.
Your help and prayers are needed.
