You do not know Jose, but you have touched his life. You may have never set foot in the village where he lives, but you have been there many times. Jose lives in a village called Mundimwe on the coast of the Indian Ocean in Mozambique, Africa.
Jose heard the gospel for the first time when a young man named Jeremiah Johnson came to his village with a local pastor named Sobrinho. Later, a Journeyman missionary named Jessica Riemersma came from Arizona to teach what the Bible says about following Jesus.
Summer Church Checklist
Summer is here! I know many Arizona churches (including mine) are beginning their summer with Vacation Bible School this week. Thousands more will have VBS over the next few weeks. Without a doubt, it is still one of the best evangelistic opportunities. The Gospel will be shared this week and thousands of children will respond. I hope you are “neck-deep” in your VBS, encouraging and lifting up the leaders.
As ministry leaders, it is also time to make final preparations for the fall. Here are a few checklist items to review:
1. Leadership development
The summer is countdown time to enlist and train new Bible study group leaders. It is also time to finalize plans for development for all leaders. This might include an appreciation banquet (with training); a Saturday or Sunday afternoon specialized training; or assigned video training. Whatever the means, make sure training is a priority this fall. An untrained leader will always become a frustrated leader!
A couple of ideas:
-- Use David Francis book 3 Roles (http://www.lifeway.com/davidfrancis) as the content for your training. It is a tremendous discussion of the “roles” of a group leader.
-- Check out the free videos and resources at http//www.ministrygrid/groupleaderessentials
2. Prepare to start new groups
This year provides an incredible opportunity that doesn’t happen often. The first Sunday of September falls AFTER Labor Day! So, that day makes an absolutely GREAT time to start new groups.
How many are you planning to start this fall? Be bold! Start even more! Remember, every new group (properly started) has potential to reach 10 new people; 3 of those being engaged with the Gospel.
We have provided resources to help you start groups at http://www.groupsmatter.com Check it out! You might even see my face on a video or two!
3. Order your fall curriculum now
Think ahead and plan your Bible studies for the fall. Order a Personal Study Guide (Learner) for every person on your ministry roll. Make sure your leaders have all the resources needed to be the best!
Hopefully you have heard by now ... but just in case ... Explore The Bible is expanding this fall. It will also be available for preschool, children and student (and they look great!). The fall study will be Hebrews. If you haven’t seen the samples, just sign up for the preview at http://www.lifeway.com/explorethebible
Or ... check out all the options at http//www.lifeway.com/go
