Help feed the people of Haiti
By filling a "Bucket of Hope," you can touch the life of a family in Haiti. Southern Baptists throughout the nation are being asked to gather specific foodstuffs and fill plastic five-gallon buckets for delivery to families in Haiti."This is the most practical way that our families can help families in Haiti," said Mitch McDonald, Arizona Southern Baptist Convention disaster relief director. McDonald said he, his wife and daughter are each filling a bucket so that they can help three families in Haiti.
For about $30 anyone can purchase the materials and assemble a "Bucket of Hope." The food contained in a single bucket will feed a Haitian family for a week.
Every bucket must be exactly alike with a specific list of items inside. Detailed instructions on what to purchase and how to pack your bucket are available for DOWNLOAD HERE. This will ensure that every bucket quickly passes through customs and into the hands of the Haitian people.
Prior to loading in cargo containers, each of the buckets will be labeled in French Creole to indicate that the Bucket of Hope is a gift of Christian love and support from Southern Baptists.
Arizona Southern Baptists may deliver their Buckets of Hope to their churches, along with $10 per bucket to assist with shipping from Hialeah, Fla., to Haiti.
Churches are asked to deliver their Buckets of Hope, along with a single check to cover shipping from Florida to Haiti, to the Arizona Southern Baptist Convention by March 1. The ASBC will cover the cost of shipping from Arizona to Florida.
"The Buckets of Hope ministry is just one means by which Southern Baptists can fulfill the mandate of Jesus Christ to feed the hungry in His name," said Mickey Caison, adult volunteer mobilization team leader for the North American Mission Board.
Once the buckets arrive in Haiti, they will be distributed by the Haitian Baptist churches, according to Caison. "We want Haitians to see Haitian Baptists meeting their needs. That's our long-term strategy," Caison said. "That will have a positive, long-term effect on future ministry in Haiti."
UPDATE
As result of Fridays’s conference call and ongoing communications with Wal-Mart in regards to the shortage of white buckets, all colored buckets will now be accepted for Buckets of Hope as long as they are five gallon buckets that have lids and are new, never used before. Cleaned out paint buckets are UNACCEPTABLE. Please remember that flexibility is huge in this process.
