Arizona Campus graduates honored

Graduates from the Arizona Campus of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary received five of the 16 awards given by the seminary to the class of 2010. In addition, the Arizona Campus presented the Dan and Harriett Stringer Award to a student who has persevered through hardship in pursuing his or her seminary degree.
Joy Litzenberger received the Dan and Harriett Stringer Award. While attending seminary, she served as foster mother to several teenaged boys, underwent surgery, and dealt with a seizure disorder that often caused dozens of seizures each day.
All the while, Litzenberger maintained her focus on her studies, kept a captivating sense of humor, and provided stability, direction, encouragement and comfort to the young men she parented. Joy serves along with her husband, David, at First Baptist Church, Congress.
The Educational Leadership Pursuit of Excellence Award was given to Karen Massingill. This award is granted to a graduating student who gives evidence of great promise in the field of education. Massingill serves as children's ministry director at The City Church, Glendale.
The Zondervan Award in Biblical Hebrew was awarded to Dan Rogers. This award is given annually to a graduating student in recognition of excellence in Hebrew studies. Rogers serves on the staff of Desert Sky Baptist Church, Casa Grande.
David Hall, pastor of Manor Baptist Church, Tucson, received the Baker Book House Award. The annual Baker Book House Award is granted to a graduating student who displays distinct scholarship and promise in the study theology or Biblical studies.
The Golden Gate Award in Church Planting is given to a graduating student from any Golden Gate campus who has engaged and excelled in church planting with particular emphasis in fostering healthy family environments within congregations. Billy Van Camp, pastor of Heart Cry Church, Queen Creek, was the award recipient.
The Broadman and Holman Seminarian Award is given to a graduating student selected by the faculty of Golden Gate Baptist Seminary from all campuses. This award recognizes total achievement in academics and ministry with an above average grade point average.
The Broadman Holman Seminarian Award was given to Jonathan Hoyt, who graduated with a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Hoyt accomplished this distinction while traveling four hours each way to seminary from Whiteriver, where he serves as pastor of White Mountain Apache Baptist Church.
