Avnet, Xerox donate to Disaster Relief ministry

Ministry by the Arizona Southern Baptist Convention's Disaster Relief team has been expanded thanks to major donations in February.

The Avnet and Xerox Corporations, in partnership together, gave five laptop computers, a scanner/printer, a video projector, a satellite dish, two large screens and a copier for a new communications trailer.

"We will be one of two states west of Texas with a communications unit. This unit will be operational by June," said Mitch McDonald, ASBC church evangelism facilitator and state disaster relief director. "We have leaders who have been trained by the North American Mission Board as incident commanders."

"The Avnet and Xerox Corporations do their best to give back to special projects throughout the year," McDonald said. "Dr. Naomi Paget helped us make a presentation of the needs of a communications trailer."

When Patricia Hill attended the Feb. 15-16 state disaster relief training, she saw the need for a second kitchen trailer. A member of Gateway Fellowship in Gilbert, Hill gave a $10,000 gift to purchase a trailer to transport some of the kitchen equipment.

The equipment and cash donation put the team "one year ahead of schedule," McDonald said.

The ASBC's Disaster Relief team has two shower units, and kitchen feeding, chain saw, mud-out, and mobile command units.

The ASBC disaster relief ministry is dependent upon individual donations and the Willis J. Ray State Mission Offering. No Cooperative Program funding is used.

"Continue to pray for the development of the ASBC Disaster Relief team and that we would be faithful to the challenge ahead of us," McDonald asked.

Among the immediate prayer needs is a storage facility for the trailers.
